PUN and PSV, week 42 of 2026
How electricity and gas prices moved from 12 to 18 October 2026, put into words: the note written the following Monday, as it was.
The week from 12 to 18 October 2026
Gas rises again, the PUN a little less: more wind, and in the South some hours at zero
Electricity
From 12 to 18 October the PUN Index GME rose for the second week in a row: on average €225/MWh, about 4% more than the previous week (GME, weekly results, PDF in Italian). The wind picked up again, above all in the South: wind energy sold rose by more than a third and renewables as a whole by about an eighth, while gas-fired plants sold about an eighth less. Peak hours went down, the other hours went up. And the zones moved in different directions: in the North and Centre-North the price rose; in the South, Calabria and Sicily it fell, and in peak hours it dropped by more than a third, down to zero in some hours.
Gas
Gas on the GME day-ahead market (MGP-GAS), delivered at the PSV, the virtual trading point, rose for the second week in a row: on average €88/MWh in continuous trading, more than 9% above the previous week (GME, weekly results, PDF in Italian). Electricity rose less than gas: gas-fired plants sold less than half of the week’s energy, while the week before they had sold more than half.
What to watch that week
For anyone thinking of switching electricity supplier: under the current procedure requests can be sent until 10 November, and from 1 December the new rules apply (ARERA, resolution 58/2026/R/eel, in Italian; what changes for a business, in the guide).
