PUN and PSV, week 43 of 2026

How electricity and gas prices moved from 19 to 25 October 2026, put into words: the note written the following Monday, as it was.

The week from 19 to 25 October 2026

PUN and gas rise for the third week: peak hours become dearer above all

Electricity

From 19 to 25 October the PUN Index GME rose for the third week in a row: on average €242/MWh, more than 7% above the previous week (GME, weekly results, PDF in Italian). The rise was concentrated in peak hours, which became about a sixth dearer; the other hours rose only slightly. Purchases on the day-ahead market grew by a few points, and almost all the extra energy sold came from gas-fired plants: the wind picked up again, but hydropower and solar fell, so renewables as a whole stayed flat. In the South, Calabria and Sicily the peak-hour price, which had collapsed the week before, rose again by more than two thirds; only in Sardinia did the price fall.

Gas

Gas on the GME day-ahead market (MGP-GAS), delivered at the PSV, the virtual trading point, rose for the third week in a row: on average €92/MWh in continuous trading, almost 5% above the previous week (GME, weekly results, PDF in Italian). Gas-fired plants went back to selling a little more than half of the week’s energy.

What to watch that week

Two deadlines in November. For anyone thinking of switching electricity supplier: under the current procedure requests can be sent until 10 November, and from 1 December the new rules apply (ARERA, resolution 58/2026/R/eel, in Italian; what changes for a business, in the guide). For energy-intensive and gas-intensive companies, the CSEA portal for the 2027 lists stays open until 16 November.
